One of my first coaching request with my coach back in 2017 was “how can I build a successful business without being seen?”
I would do ANYYYYTHING to avoid sharing pictures of myself and my thoughts, perspective, opinions (and CHANNELLING? God, forget it! You must be JOKING lol).
There are ways to do it, but the fact is, for most of us, our business is… well: ME, MYSELF and I. Maybe a handful of freelancers or employees.
A lot of us are doing deep soul work in intimate containers with our ideal client so if anyone’s gonna hire you they want to know who you are.
AND… (ok lean in here)… secretly... in your heart of hearts... there a part of you who is ACHING to express the farthest corners of your soul into the world and to just… see what happens.
There’s no way around it. I’ve TRIED. Trust me. I’ve tried it all. I've been Queen Dodger over here. Let me save you the pain... You need to be seen, share your stuff, and who you are.
So here are a few tips that I’ve found that have helped me go from OH GOD NO, I can’t do this!!! To… being a lot better than I was lol.
1. Surround yourself with the right people. Find intimate communities of people, make new friends, go on retreats, buy discerned online courses with the vibe of others who are doooooing it.
I was part of a 2 year high-level mastermind with very successful entrepreneurs and I would love to see how they were building their business publicly AND also be in on the inside conversations with them. 21 day facebook lives, challenges, podcast interviews, instagram stories, webinars, “family and friends” DM selling etc. Stuff that I just wouldn’t have considered a route to success before, but now I know better.
2. Follow expressive individuals on social media, people that make you feel good and inspire you.
As you watch what they do feel your inner sensors for what lights you up and wants to get you writing, taking pictures, sharing videos etc… CREATING. Nekkid candid shots give you palpitations, but expressive story telling and arthouse shots set off sparks? Note how your inner compass goes off. Find your way in. You don’t need to jump to level 10 with visibility to create success for yourself. Find expression that feels good.
3. Structure your social media in a way that feels good for you.
I hired a coach who had me open up my whole FB profile to public and told me to add the fuck out of random people. It allllways felt awful but I did it because “she knew better.” It’s so easy to give away our power like this in a coach-client relationship and I learned my lesson.
It took me about a year to undo all the mess I created (delete unknown faces and make it feel like a safe space again). Now I rarely use my FB personal profile wall for anything to do with business. That’s my choice, not THE way. You get to decide how you want to structure it.
4. DO THE INNER WORK
Yea, there’s kinda no way around it. You’ve gotta meet those inner demons and wage war with them until you realise you’re in one cosmic stage show designed by your higher self to help you grow.
Extract the untrue stories:
- Unworthiness “who cares what I have to say?”
- Fear of judgement (“what will they think??”)
- Comparison (“she’s so much better than I am who’d hire me for anything?”)
- Past life trauma, soothing the inner child etc.
You’ve gotta sit with it all until it melts away. This is why I believe that business can be the path to freeing yourself. It really can.
5. The further I move away from the vibration of my “old life” the less fucks I give.
When I first left my 9-5 I thought “what if I fail and have to go back to getting a job? I’ll have all this weird content out there that I’ll never be able to delete... I’ll never get another job!”
(Let me tell you now I’d rather go work in a beach bar than go back to my old corporate life so I can’t see myself going for an interview any time soon lol.)
Or I’d be in total paranoia that “everyone’s watching and waiting for me to screw this up!” I felt like my every move was being secretly scrutinized.
But the point isn’t to NOT screw up (you’ll screw up a lot) the point is that you’ve got to go for your desires no matter what other people think. AND, realise in your bones that you can’t control others’ thoughts anyway.
Now, four years on, honestly, I feel so far away from that old life I just don’t care. So in some ways this tip is: give it time. And also, if you need to distance yourself from your past life while you birth your dreams: do.
You’re gonna have to be SEEN, there’s no way around it.
Start doing the work now and you’ll start to feel yourself shedding that energetic weight as you express who you are, and your mission into the world.
I’d love to hear what has helped you become more visible with who you are, your gifts, and your offerings.
